New Contest within "The Herald"!
As promised in our last edition, we have a new contest. It is really pretty simple. While you are reading "The Herald" online, you will find clues (In parentheses) imbedded into articles . Find the clues and put them together to answer the questions on Page 6. Send your answers to larrywe@ats-inc.com. All correct answers will be entered into a drawing and a first, second and third place gift will be awarded. So read away. Management and editorial staff are not eligible for this contest.
ATS Implements New Imaging System
On July 1, ATS implemented the Pegasus Transtech Imaging System. This system will be used for electronic storage of multiple document types, which include freight bills, bills of lading, delivery receipts, accounts payable and settlement documents, just to name a few. In addition to eliminating the physical space that filing cabinets take up, electronic filing of documents provides many advantages which include ease of access to documents for multiple staff members on their desk PC's, fax capability from the program and reduced chance of lost documents. The process is very simple. Each document is scanned. It is then displayed on a computer screen and indexed, which means it is marked with an identifying number and assigned a two-digit document type code. For example, a bill of lading would be identified with the load number it was associated with and the code "01", which indicates it is a bill of lading. A second phase of this project, called "work flow" will be implemented later this year. Under work flow, documents will be scanned and indexed as soon they arrive in the office. Documents will then be electronically directed to the individuals that will process them. For example, settlement documents would be directed to the settlement staff, repair receipts would be directed to the shop and logs would go to the safety department. All of this would happen simultaneously, allowing everyone to perform their work on those documents at the same time. No paper copies would be circulated, resulting in a paperless work environment.
