ATS Driver takes home first place finish. ATS Driver takes home first place finish.
St. Cloud, Minn. — June 18, 2008 — Anderson Trucking Service, Inc. (ATS) is pleased to congratulate driver David Grim who received 1st Place in the Minnesota Truck Driving Championships held June 6th - 8th, 2008. Grim came to ATS Inc. as a company driver in April 2005, and then became an Owner Operator, purchasing a new truck last year. The Truck Driving Championship is an annual competition hosted by the Minnesota Trucking Association.
Grim (Smicksburg, PA) competed in the 5-axle sleeper berth class, one of eight classes in the contest. In Saturday’s competition, Grim achieved the second highest cumulative score in his class following the written test, personal interview, driving skills course and a pre-trip inspection. The top three drivers in each class then drove on Sunday to determine first, second and third place.
“I am extremely proud to have David Grim and the entire ATS Roadeo Team represent ATS in this annual competition,” stated Rollie Anderson, president and CEO. “They are a fine group of drivers who exemplify the best in their industry.”
The competition, referred to as a “Roadeo”, consists of four examinations testing various aspects of the professional truck driver’s job. The tests include:
· a written test covering the trucking industry
· safe driving rules · first aid and fire fighting
· an interview assessing the driver’s character and attitude
· physical inspection of the truck before driving, to identify defects planted by the judges, and
· driving through six pre-arranged problems on the skills course.
The competition is held among eight classes of trucks, ranging from straight trucks to tractor-trailer combinations with a variety of axle configurations and trailing equipment.
The truck driving championship was held at the Yellow Freight facility in Burnsville, MN. One hundred and eleven contestants participated, representing a number of Minnesota trucking companies. “We are extremely proud of these driver’s for taking the time and initiative to study and practice for this competition,” said Scott Anderson, ATS director of safety.
The other members of the team were Alex Aguerro, Mike McKee and Chris McGee. The outstanding effort and time that these drivers put in is greatly appreciated and they all deserve a pat on the back for their efforts. Congratulations!
ATS would like to say a special thank you to retired driver, Bill “Duck” Wang who coached this year’s team and without him we would not have been able to perform so well at this level. The Minnesota Truck Driving Championship is an annual competition hosted by the Minnesota Trucking Association.

ATS EXPANDS HEAVY HAUL DIVISION ASSETS TO 19 AXLES ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Anderson Trucking Service, Inc. (ATS) is pleased to announce the delivery of their first 19-axle trailer. The 19-axle trailer was designed by ATS with the help of Trail King Industries. The new trailer will begin hauling customer loads this month.
For over 50 years, ATS has built business through innovation, which included expanding equipment to meet the needs of customers. Over the last five years, the ATS Heavy Haul Division of ATS Specialized, Inc. has grown from having two 13-axle trailers to over 50. The 4-axle tractor fleet has grown to over 110 in that same period of time.
Part of our business strategy has been to grow when the needs of our customers grow,” said Brent Anderson, Director of the Heavy Haul Division at ATS. “It has been an exciting time for ATS Heavy Haul to grow this quickly.”
The 19-axle design will add flexibility to the transportation solutions ATS offers customers. The trailer has a 32-foot expandable (to 38-foot) flat deck for conventional heavy haul cargoes that can be changed out for 50-foot beam deck for transporting equipment that needs these specialized requirements. The trailer can carry loads up to 205,000 pounds.
Rollie Anderson, President and CEO of ATS, is pleased with the growth, “The market is strong. That coupled with the recent demands in the wind, energy and power industries, has allowed ATS to grow with our customers and add this type of equipment. We look forward to the challenges and opportunities this equipment will bring to the marketplace”.
Safety is always one of our top concerns at ATS. With this in mind, Jeff Lofgren, who has been driving with ATS for over 30 years, will be the primary driver of the truck pulling the new 19-axle trailer.

ATS Transports Wounded Soldier Anderson Trucking Service Inc. Transports Wounded Soldier Home.
St. Cloud, Minn.- May 03, 2007- In early April 2007 Anderson Trucking Service Inc. (ATS) Chief Pilot John Wojack was contacted by Walter L. Fricke, founder and AirBoss of the Veterans Airlift Command (VAC).
Mr Fricke knew of a soldier, Sgt. Anthony Larson from the St. Cloud area who had been recovering at Walter Reed Hospital for 18 months from injuries he had received in Iraq. Larson was being released from the hospital and Fricke needed to get Sgt. Larson home to Minnesota.
Rollie Anderson, the President and CEO of ATS, immediately said “yes”, and the trip was planned with VAC. “ We are extremely happy and honored to support or returning soldiers” Rollie stated.
On April 28, 2007 aboard the ATS corporate jet, Sgt. Larson returned home to the heroes welcome he deserved along with his companion dog and family members.
There were hundreds of people on hand - 200 plus bikers carrying large American flags, city officials, family and friends and scores of others who just wanted to express their gratitude to Sgt Larson for his service and sacrifice. When the ATS BeechJet touched down just after 4 pm, the crowd started cheering and waving flags and signs. When Sgt Larson and his companion dog emerged from the aircraft and the crowd really went wild.
“I was honored to be on hand when the community I live and work in welcomed home one of our own. After more than a year and half in rehabilitation, Sgt Tony Larson was returning from serving his country in the war on terror. It was a warm, heartfelt event that I wish each veteran had the opportunity to experience- particularly those who’ve suffered wounds in the course of their duty. I was proud to be part of a community that honors and respects its service members. I am also very proud to be part of a company that participates in these types of programs,” stated Billy Woolsey, VP of ATS, Inc.
“Everyone keeps thanking me for what I did, the real thanks should be to Sgt. Anthony Larson and all the others like him”. “I was so honored to be able to transport a wounded veteran home to the hero’s welcome he’s deserved for such a long time. I hope we can do more trips like this and that more and more communities will continue to welcome home soldiers like they deserve”, said John Wojack.
